Canadiana: Helix

Helix is a Canadian metal band, most widely known for its' popular "ROCK YOU" anthem.

Less widely-known is Helix's double infamy, for producing a parallel, uncensored version of the "Gimme gimme good loving" music video (the pg version is further below), complete with topless beauty contestants, and featuring a 16-year old future porn star, Traci Lords, as Ms. Georgia.

Sorry, but you'll have to do your own digging if you want to view the uncensored version of that music video, though I "hear" it's not difficult to locate.

Helix - Gimme Gimme Good Loving

Helix - Make Me Do Anything You Want

Helix - Heavy Metal Love

Helix - Deep Cuts The Knife

I didn't realize some of these bands were Canadian. :)

Dear God that explains it all. Back in the 80s my buddy Lyonel was a huge metal fan. His character in a long-running AD&D game was Helix. I could never figure out why he was so into DNA. I was thinking double helix and all that.

It is very clear to me now.

@Stuart: you can thank crtc's cancon rules for some of these, it surprises even me how many good bands came out of Canada, particularly Winnipeg.

@Christian: Helix actually got a fair amount of play here in Canada, I think it's neat that one of your chums was aware of this band!

OK, now I'm in unfamiliar territory ... I guess you've gotten past the bands that actually made it to the US airwaves, and are now onto some real Canadian content!

Now we're rocking! "Walkin' the Razor's Edge" was an album I did actually have back then! (And on glorious chromium cassette with Dolby B noise reduction...)

I did not know anything about the Traci Lords video until now, so thank you for enlightening me on that bit of video trivia.

None of those songs played on the radio, not even the rock ballads? We are delving into some pretty obscure music then!

The scandal revolves around her age, which I understand was also the case in her subsequent career move.
