Vacation -- Day Two

Normally you start your vacation posts with day one, but yesterday was an adventure to say the least. A couple of hours before we left for vacation, there was a massive mudslide on the highway between Calgary and our cabin. The detour added 55 miles and four hours to our roadtrip. A roadtrip that should have taken us six hours ended up taking ten.

Everyone was in the same situation, as you can see from the photo of the traffic that was in front of us. Now imagine that the stalled traffic stretches for another 20 miles beyond the range of my camera.
Homemade waffles with fresh fruit and ice cream this morning make up for a miserable roadtrip.
That, and lakeside views like this. Today we went for a long walk on the property, visited with some family, did a huge grocery run, and enjoyed a hot tub.

Tomorrow: day three.

Sorry to hear about the travel difficulties -- that's one horrible detour.

On the other hand those waffles sound great and the view is wonderful. Enjoy yourself!

Homemade waffles. Yep, that'd make things all better for me.

I read about this mudslide yesterday from a news feed. Glad you made it safely. Yuck about this time it took. See you out there in August if you are still at the Lake.

@Bard: the upside is we took the road less travelled. The views were incredible during the detour. Fortunately we have a DVD player in the car so the kids watched movies while we were at a standstill in traffic. The waffles and view were worth the inconvenience!

@Ivy: they were sourdough waffles, so were extra fluffy. Plus fresh strawberries and icecream, can you ask for anything better?

@Tonia: there are at least a dozen Settlers players here already! You'll be amazed at how high the water is, its nearly up to the first block, havn't see it that high in 15 years.

Ha! I'm in the midst of an epic vacation journey myself. Not quite as dramatic as your own, it would seem.

Best luck of luck!

Sourdough? I've never tried that. I want to try that.

We had wheaten pancakes from scratch last night for supper, along with bacon, sausage, real maple and organic eggs.

So nummy.

Happy Day 3 of being on holiday. Woohoo!

@Akrasia: love to hear of your travels, our connection here is intermittent, so i'm having some difficulty getting much blog reading in. Thank goodness I brought 12 Conan books with me.

@Ivy: you must try sourdough waffles. I'll post the recipe today, along with some photos.
