Here's the final set of illustrations from The Fantasy Trip core booklets. These ones are from In The Labyrinth, the setting and game masters booklet. Robert Phillips once again provides the illustrations.
Yep, I've always loved this artwork. I especially liked the sorceress(?) by the brazier, the cloaked figure (wraith?) in the doorway, and the fellow shaking down the dwarves. This picture, in particular, inspired one of the more memorable and despised NPCs in the TFT campaign I ran in highschool: Malcolm Brinebester, the king's tax-collector. He had a knack for knowing when the PCs were just back from an adventure and laden with swag.
@Sean: TFT had just about the right complexity, and the artwork was quite unlike the DnD artwork of the day. I still prefer the art from Melee, Wizard, and Death Test to the later stuff.
These are great! Thanks for posting them.
ReplyDeleteI love how, even with minimal line-work, the artists can evoke the perfect atmosphere.

ReplyDelete@Banesfinger: this is Phillips' best illustrations of the three main books. I like his humanoids.
