A couple of days ago, I mentioned the outstanding Lizardmen sculpts distributed by Otherworld Miniatures. The only thing better than those sculpts would be more lizardmen sculpts.Here is one miniatures pose that I would like to see produced, which I would buy in a heart-beat: the original Dungeons and Dragons lizardman logo. This fellow predates even "the game wizards" logo.
The above lizardman appears on the inside front panel of the Dungeons and Dragons Greyhawk supplement. The other lizardman image that is forever burned in my brain is the Monster Manual version, below.
One of the two already-produced Otherworld Miniatures lizardmen appears to be the mirror-image of this illustration, except in a standing rather than crouching position. It would be great to have this left-handed Lizardman mini, in a similar pose, to add to the collection!
I am sure that someone did version of this as a miniature. My memory could be wrong though...
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with the quality of their miniatures. The Demon Idol is awesome. There are a number of companies producing some high end quality work on miniatures these days. Finding good painters, is not as easy.

The old TSR lizardman logo was also hidden in the old AD&D DM screen.
I've been trying to buy a copy of the 1st Ed Screen, once I do i'll post a pic of that lizardman.
Although I am unlikely to purchase any miniatures, I am really looking forward to seeing Otherworld Miniatures at my local convention.
ReplyDeleteKiltedyaksman - well, not really hidden but put right there directly in the dragon's breath, and more of a copy of the stance & weapon then a copy of the image, but maybe an Easter Egg nonetheless! Was this ever written up somewhere, or was it just a case of the newer artist using the older art as inspiration? Thanks for pointing it out btw.

I'm almost positive Trampier did most of the art on the 2nd-6th printings of the screen, but maybe not! Remember the 1e PHB cover by Trampier is reproduced there, and the section in question portrays a portion of that art itself (a different view of the statue with offering bowl).
