Incidentally, if you are interested in learning more about Magic Realm, there is an excellent website devoted to that game here.
There, you can find a "quick-start" copy of the rules, entitled "The Least You Need to Know to Play Magic Realm" which is available as a pdf download. Those quick-start rules are a scant 8-pages, a far cry from the 100-plus pages of the full Magic Realm rules.
Also, over at BGG, I believe you can find links to a build-it-yourself copy of the Magic Realm board and playing pieces. You can also buy the game, second hand.
Wow. Talk about memories. This game wasted three straight gaming sessions without the game ever being played. It looked cool but confused the crap out of us to no end. Final solution was to dispose of it after 5 years of collecting dust, with the realization it would never see play.
ReplyDeleteSo much potential. So little of it achieved.
The published game rules are completely inscrutable. I can understand why you abandoned it.
ReplyDeleteThis game really needed a simplified rule-set: the rules themselves are not terribly complicated, but they definitely came out of the wargame mentality.
Without the "The Least You Need to Know to Play Magic Realm" quick-start, this requires someone at the table who has already played it.
The web-site (along with the rest of geo-cities) is gone. Do you know how to get a hold of that quikc-start now?
