Would You Pay $25 For This Art Book?

I saw The Art of Dragon Magazine at my friendly local second-hand book shop today, along with a copy of the 1st edition Fiend Folio and some other vintage Dungeons and Dragons books. The Fiend Folio was priced at $15. This book of Dragon Magazine art was priced at $25. Now, I'm not saying that it's not worth that much money (to someone) but for my money, I'd rather have the Fiend Folio, what with all the gorgeous Russ Nicholson art it contains. The Art of Dragon Magazine contains, predominantly, Dragon Magazine cover art, most of which is rather forgettable.

I really don't buy art books, so I guess my answer is no. It looks cool though.

Hey Paladin: I gotta say no. Not for 25 bucks.

I don't think any Dragon cover by Denis Beauvais could be considered "rather forgettable", but to each their own.

As to the $25 price tag, if the 'Old Stony' castle pages were intact, it might be worth that much to someone. But you really are comparing apples and oranges here...

Pity there isn't one of 'The Art of White Dwarf Magazine', that would be worth it at twice the price!

I do buy art books and my answer to that would be "no". Now, I paid over US$50 for the Paul Bonner "Out of the Forests" artbook, but I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

Is the hardback version the same inside? It's here for about $15 postpaid...

@ze bulette: That's not the same one. This one was for the 10th anniversary, around 1988. 128 pages.

Ah, that's too bad, I probably would have bought it for the hardcover if it was the older issues.. thanks.

I'm going to have to jump on the "I'd rather have the FF bandwagon" here

I wouldn't pay $25 for it. Go with Fiend Folio.

A while back I did pay $25 for all five volumes of Best of The Dragon at my local game store. That was a pretty sweet score.

I'd pay $25 for those.

I wouldn't buy the art book -- but I would convince my sister to copy that cover for me using prismacolor pencils so I could hang it in my office... wait! I already did that! :) Check out my blog! :)

Also -- I would spend $25 on the Best Of's too...
